The mountain men of Yunnan. The four musicians of Shanren are from some of the least understood of China’s 56 ethnic groups. They have taken their indigenous music and instruments and overlaid it with alternative folk and rock. Their album “Left Foot Dance of the Yi and other Chinese Folk Anthems” won best Folk Roots album at the Golden Folk Awards 2014. Wild, eccentric and charismatic.
