The mighty Jamie Smith’s MABON (JSM), the award winning, Welsh based band are Britain’s  finest  original InterCeltic music performers, traveling beyond borders to explore the forms and styles of the Celtic traditions and work them anew.

The band’s  reputation for producing acclaimed recordings and stunning live shows is well documented, “… a class act……uplifting, energetic and cerebral in equal measure” Froots, “a fearsome reputation as a live band” Financial Times, “A band to catch live if you are within a hundred miles of their gigs” Irish Music Magazine

Combining traditional instruments and a modern rhythm section, JSM  perform outstanding original compositions – both instrumental and vocal – by acclaimed accordionist Jamie.  In 2011 the band was awarded ‘Best Instrumental Album’ by online folk and roots magazine Spiral Earth. Since then the band has played sessions for BBC Radio 2 and Radio 3, headlined shows for Celtic Connections, WOMAD (UK), Interceltique du Lorient, Het Lindeboom (France), Music Meeting (Netherlands) and a host of high profile Festivals across Europe. In 2013, Jamie also won the competitive accordion competition at the Festival Interceltique de Lorient  They are seen as one of the ‘must see’ acts within the folk and roots world.

The energetic sound of jigs and reels; or a graceful mazurka, an ecstatic muiñera; a haunting Welsh-language love-song or a driving, sing-along, fantasy epic – all are given the same refreshing, creative treatment as the band dances along the borders between Celtic heritage and contemporary sound.

“If music could fuel engines, Mabon could solve the energy crisis” – Songlines
