ANCESTRAL VOICES AND VOICES AT THE CROSSROADS
Singer and ethnomusicologist Grace Nono from Agusan del Sur, northeastern Mindanao, has been learning oral traditional songs from elders in different parts of the Philippine archipelago for over twenty years. She brings to the Rainforest Festival two different performances. The first–Ancestral Voices– features sacred voices and instruments from Indigenous, Christianized, and Islamized communities in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The second–Voices at the Crossroads–features love laments with Spanish influences from the Visayas.
Grace Nono is joined by fellow-musicians and educators Faisal Monal from Maguindanao, Alex Tumapang from Kalinga, Erskine Basilio from Isabela, Glenn Bondoc from Pampanga, Ryan “Pepe” Ednave from Zambales, Tusa from Manila (and Davao), and Toni Bernardo from Manila (and Zamboanga).
