KUCHING, WednesdaySarawak Tourism Board (STB) and the traffic police will regulate the expected heavy traffic flow during this weekend’s Rainforest World Music Festival.

The 16th edition of RWMF will be held here at Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) from Friday to Sunday. Only cars with allocated car sticker of RWMF 2013 will be allowed to enter towards Sarawak Cultural Village. Members of the public intending to drive to the festival are advised to park their cars along the road leading to the One Hotel Santubong and take a shuttle from this road junction to the festival venue.

“We encourage festival-goers to use public transport provided to avoid traffic congestion and to support the greening campaign by reducing carbon footprint,” said STB Corporate Communications Director, Angelina Bateman.

She said traffic police would manage accessibilities from One Hotel Santubong to Sarawak Cultural Village, Damai Beach Resort, Damai Puri Resort and Permai Rainforest Resort. She added that the management of car parks owned by Damai Central and resorts as mentioned will be managed by the individual property owners.  Car stickers would be issued according to their number of parking spaces available for staff and in-house guests.

STB is working closely with tour operators, as well as other service providers who require an access towards SCV or resorts. They have already been given car stickers and are allowed to shuttle passengers for drop-off within the vicinity.

Drivers who park illegally and obstruct smooth traffic flow would face traffic police and Road Transport Department (JPJ) fines.

The festival organiser encourages people to use public transport provided by City Public Link which serves from Hills Shopping Mall and Merdeka Palace Hotel to the festival venue, Sarawak Cultural Village. Bus departs every hour from 10am to 8pm from these venues to SCV with one-way tickets priced at RM15 each.

Return bus schedule from SCV will be as late as 1:30am back to city.
