The legendary balafon player, Mamadou Diabate, comes to Sarawak with his Percussion Mania band. A griot by birth, bound to preserve the traditional music of his forefathers, he brings hypnotic chants, powerful drumbeats, the spectacular ngoni, supported by talking drums, dun-duns, djembes and an electrifying bass. They are all about colour and the vibrant celebration of life, the way only a West African band can do. This is West Africa at its best.
Mamadou Diabete will showcase the African specials on Saturday, 13 July at the annual Rainforest World Music Festival.
Apart from Mamadou Diabete, festival goers will also be antertain by other renowned world music performers like the Le Trio Joubran from Palestine, Khusugtun from Mongolia, Raiz De Cafezal a group of Brazilian Amazonian Indians, Oreka TX from Spain, La Zikabilo from France, String Sisters comprising fiddlers from the Scandinavian countries, Scotland, Ireland & the United States, Kanda Bongo Man from Congo, Cankisou from Czech Republic, Daniel Waro from the Reunion Island and Hata comprising musicians from Malaysia, Korea, Turkey and Taiwan.
Malaysian musicians like Samuel Dass and Prakash, Diplomats of Drum as well as Sarawakian very own Rhythm of Borneo, and The Music of Sarawak will also participate in the festival.
The festival will be held from the 13 to 15 July 2012 at the Sarawak Cultural Village and apart from the wonderful music and bands that you will see and listen to, there will also be their CDs and other festival memorabilia offers at the merchendise stall.
For the first time also the launch on the 12 July will be open to the public and the organiser offers entry ticket priced at RM80 with dinner and RM30 for entry only. This is an opportunity to get close to all the bands and performers or to have their autograph.
Tickets to the Rainforest World Music Festival 2012 are available at the Visitors Information Centre (VIC) in Kuching, Sibu and Miri and also available online at www.rwmf.net/v2 . The ticket are priced at RM110 for one-day pass and RM300 for three-day pass each for adult while tickets for children between three and 12 years old is priced at RM55 for one-day pass and RM150 for a three-day pass each.
Currently Enrich members (Malaysia Airlines) will also be able to enjoy 30% discount for purchase of tickets at all VIC’s.
