Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2011 is now all set to take centre stage come July 2011. Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Tourism and Heritage Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr. George Chan Hong Nam announced this yesterday at a press conference held at his office. The event will be held from the 8 to 10 July 2011 at the Sarawak Cultural Village in Kuching.
To date the organizers have confirmed performers from France (Startijenn). Sharing the stage with them are Pacific Curls – New Zealand, Mamak Khadem – Iran, The Blue Canyon Boys – USA, Lisa Haley & The Zydekats – USA, The Shin – Georgia, Eastern Europe, Ikswew – Canada, Frigg – Finland, Malick Pathe Sow – Senegal, Agungbeat – Malaysia, Victor Valdez Trio – Mexico/Australia, Ilgi – Latvia, Hanggai – China, Kissmet – India/UK, Paddy Keenan Trio from Ireland, Duoud – Tunisia/Algeria, Joaquin Diaz – Dominican Republic, Kamafei – Italy, Kenge Kenge – Kenya and Warsaw Village band – Poland.
Daily tickets priced at RM110 for adults and RM55 for children aged 3 to 12 are now available on line at www.ticketcharge.com.my. Capacity at the venue for the 3 nights is 24,000 and for 2011, the Organizers hope to attract a crowd of at least 21,000 for the 3 nights. Out of this, the Board hopes to attract 14000 visitors or 70% from outside Sarawak. This will thus augur well for the local business community and also contribute to a significant number of visitors’ arrivals into Sarawak as a whole. Also in line with the global emphasis on greening and sustainable tourism, for 2011, the Board is making efforts to move towards making the Rainforest World Music Festival a greener festival.
Besides the good music and great company, the Organizers will also have stalls selling a wide variety of local, fusion and international food and beverages as well as stalls selling festival memorabilia, performers CDs etc at the venue.
